Its architecture, cobblestoned streets, and unique fortifications make this North American city an historic place with European-style charm and an uncommon historic and cultural heritage. Quebec City is the capital of the province of Quebec, located in eastern Canada. The historic city center, a French-style walled enclosure dating back to the 18th century, is known as Old Town Quebec (Vieux-Québec). It is situated on the banks of the St. Lawrence Seaway, around a cliff surmounted by the hotel Château Frontenac (Frontenac Castle), one of the world's most photographed buildings. The entire fortified town can be seen from atop the cliff. Just one look around, and you'll understand why the entire area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
